When I started training with Chris almost 3 years ago, I was struggling with my health and overall fitness level. A stressful job and what I perceived to be no time in my schedule had rendered my health to a place I didn’t recognize. Seeking out personal training was a desperate attempt on my part to make a positive change - I was not confident I could do it on my own and so on recommendation, I tried a session with Chris. The rest really is history. Three years later, I am 28 pounds thinner and have gone from not being able to do push ups to doing them with a ten pound weight on my back! I wish someone had told me a lot sooner that all it would take was two consistent sessions a week to put me back on the path to a healthy future. Without Chris’s positive, motivating, encouraging and patient attitude combined with his technical expertise in the area of exercise, I could not have achieved these results. I remember not too long ago scaling a pretty challenging trail in Zion National Park and getting to the top and silently thanking Chris - this was not something I would have been able to do in the past. When I first met Chris in the spring of 2010, I had a clear goal of losing ten pounds. I worked out with three different trainers before I decided to hire Chris. I knew that there were certain benefits that would come along with hiring any trainer (more consistent gym schedule, the “luxury” of not having to plan my workout routine, and pushing myself harder than I do when exercising alone), but I was thrilled to find a trainer like Chris, whose personal style helped me to stay motivated, focused, and looking forward to the gym. He shows up early and smiling, and maintains a high level of energy and focus throughout each workout. Not once have I felt like he was just “going through the motions” or mindlessly counting off reps the way you often see other trainers doing. Chris is right there with you in each workout, each exercise, each rep… evaluating my exertion, breathing and form, and encouraging my performance. He has an innate ability to choose words and phrases that motivate me to work hard, push through, and finish each set. The exercises Chris taught me make me feel strong and athletic, and have become my new favorites. Not only did Chris exceed my expectations, he helped me exceed my goal. That ten pounds is long gone, and I owe it largely to Chris’s exceptional talents as a trainer.
When I first started training with Chris, my goals were to build muscle, gain strength and increase bone density. What I have achieved is all of the above and more. Chris’s strengths as a trainer are too numerous to mention, so I’ll highlight just a few. His teaching style sets him heads above other personal trainers. He possesses a unique quality– a communication skill - that separates the exceptional trainers from the average ones. I believe each of us has a different learning style. If I don’t understand the exercise the first time, Chris elaborates using additional language and techniques which help me make a mind body connection to the exercise. There are many paths to one goal and this ability to tailor the teaching method to each individual student seems crucial to the success of any personal training program and yet I’ve only found it with Chris. Chris has a genuine enthusiasm for his job which makes my time at the gym more enjoyable for me. I actually look forward to my workouts! He knows my goals and possesses the in-depth knowledge to help me achieve them. He genuinely cares about my results as well as any aches or pains I might be experiencing and will tailor workouts to help strengthen muscles and alleviate pain. Since training with Chris, I feel stronger, love the results I see, and feel great about the progression in my fitness level. I first met Chris at a training studio in Bryn Mawr. I have always worked with a personal trainer so I thought I give Chris a chance to "work his magic"...and did he ever!! His workout philosophy of fatiguing the muscle as quickly as possible by doing slower reps, was something totally new to me. When he left that facility, I tracked him down and followed him to Motivation and am so happy I did. It isn't often that you find a trainer who is REALLY interested in your goals as a client,and is as motivating as Chris...he just doesn't stand there and count your reps..he corrects your posture, explains the reason behind each exercise(or machine), shows what muscle group you're working,pushes you to do "just one more" rep and genuinely gets involved with your session. I've personally seen great results since working with Chris and must admit I DO look forward to going to the gym more now than ever before..I guess that's because Chris is ALWAYS on time,greets you with a great smile,is always "up", interested in your progress, definitely is a GREAT motivator and never seems bored! He listens to what you want to achieve and gets you there! His personality is upbeat and infectious..He truly knows what he's doing and you feel he's always there as your safety net. Another unique quality about Chris is that I find him to be a knowledge seeker.. he asks questions regarding new weight control data and diets,exercise routines,dietary supplements,general health issues,medical skin care(my specialty),Plastic Surgery(ie: lipo etc.)just to mention a few areas of interest to add to his bank of knowledge. I had hip surgery four years ago and I suffer from chronic low back pain. Chris customizes our workouts to address my specific issues. I appreciate Chris's expertise in corrective exercise and working around injuries - that has been hard to find in other places I've trained.
My time is limited so Chris condensed the workouts to 30 minutes a session twice a week. I'm amazed at the benefits I get from such a short time in the gym. In addition my golf game has improved. The flexibility and core work we do has me driving the ball longer and straighter. Thanks Chris!
